To connect to a chat server, go to Options/Connect.
Click add. Enter the server name (e.g., irc.freenode.net).
Click Add. Then click Connect to IRC server.
Go to Options/Connect/Options and click "connect on
startup" and "reconnect on disconnection."
If you frequent multiple chat rooms, you can go to them automatically
when you connect.
Go to Options/IRC/Perform and enter /join #roomName
MIRC can not always tell when you have been disconnected. Go to
options/IRC/Perform and enter /timer 0 30 ping $me. This
will ping the server every 30 seconds.
If you want sounds, go to Options/Sounds/Requests and click "accept sound
requests." Then extract this zipfile into
any directory you choose (e.g., d:\mirc\sounds). Set
the "Wave file folder" to the directory you extracted the
files into.
Yes! You can have multiple MIRC
windows open at the same time in order to chat on different servers at
once. Just invoke mirc as: mirc32.exe -sServerName
Use /me to think or do something. Type /me followed by an action
statement. For example, /me smilesoutputs
* devguy smiles
"Flashing" lets you know when new messages have
arrived. It causes the MIRC icon to flash in the start bar
whenever someone enters a message when MIRC isn't the active
application. Select flashing by clicking on the room window's left icon.
